October Offerings
As we enter the last laps of the exhausting 2024 Presidential election cycle, I want to call attention to a few events that might interest some of my Substack readers.
1. 2024 Presidency Conference
On Friday October 18, Saturday October 19, and Sunday October 20, The San Francisco C.G. Jung Institute will host its seventh consecutive Presidency Conference. We have convened this event every four years since 2000. A distinguished group of speakers will address “Politics in a Traumatized World: Dystopia and the Creative Imagination.” The event can be attended both in person and virtually. We focus on the interface between politics, culture, and psychology on a variety of issues from women’s rights, to gun control, immigration and much more. Just glance through the speakers and topics of the attached brochure to get a sense of what a rich and important event this will be.
2. The More Dangerous Case of Donald Trump
In 2016, I participated in the publication of The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump. The book was quite influential and controversial in its raising psychological questions about Donald Trump’s fitness to lead the United States. The book’s editor, Bandy Lee, has now assembled an updated and expanded version, The More Dangerous Case of Donald Trump. It includes new chapters by the original contributors as well as additional chapters by other contributors.

Here is the book’s description:
“Today, the 2017 instant New York Times bestseller, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts, seems almost prophetic. The updated and expanded version, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 37 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts, correctly predicted that, unless contained, the dangers would not remain only psychological but become social, cultural, geopolitical, and civic. Now, many more psychiatrists and mental health experts join the original mental health experts who spoke out, to describe the dangers a second Trump presidency would bring to American democracy and human civilization. The authors describe a man who could not pass a basic fitness test because of his pattern of psychological deficits and dysfunctions, who scored extremely high on a dangerousness risk assessment, and whose impairments have only grown more severe with time, to the point of posing existential dangers for humankind.”
3. Discussion on This Jungian Life.
On October 17, I will be joining the hosts of the popular This Jungian Life podcast to discuss the current Presidential Elections. Topics will include our recent book, Mind of State: Mind of State: Conversations on the Psychological Conflicts Stirring U.S. Politics & Society and my recent Substack essays on the current political/psychological/cultural environment.
